San Diego Diensthund began as San Diego Police and Schutzhund
Club in the spring of 1990, with Thom Payne as the president and training director. The next year the name was
changed to San Diego Diensthund, which translates to "service dog". The club began with a handful of
members and grew steadily each year. In 1996 S.D. Diensthund hosted the USA Regional Championship. One
of the first members, won the regionals two years in a row and was the first person in the region to achieve this acomplishment. We
have also had a club member win the WDA (Working Dog Association) National Championship and represent the United
States at the German Shepherd World Championship in Holland. Since then, the club has grown to include several
malinois that have competed successfully at the national level, an international rottweiler conformation champion,
a retired agility dog that is begining a new tracking career and that's just a few of the recent additions!!! Our
club has continued to successfully train multiple dogs to multiple titles, as well as compete at various levels.
We welcome dogs of different breeds, ages and levels of training, as well as handlers with all levels of experience. One of our main goals is to improve the bond between the dog and handler, to create a more complete
"team". Our training utilizes intelligent and progressive training methods--we combine different
learning theories, clicker, and a lot of motivational stimulus to achieve our competitive goals. Diensthund is continuing
its tradition of success--several of our current members have trialed successfully at a regional level or higher.
We are also very excited for our young dogs that are "coming up" to begin to trial!! Our members are a great
group of people, very friendly and very diverse, but we all have one thing in common, dogs!! We all love our
dogs as family members, and cherish them as our working partners, therefore the health, happiness and well being of the
dogs are a priority.
We always enjoy meeting new potential members, so if you would like to come watch a
training session, please contact us for times, location and dates. Thank You and Happy Training!!
